This meme is from
goldjadeocean. I believe that the goal is for me to explain what some of my LJ icons mean to me - they were chosen by her. I only have 15 icons. I sort of want a paid account, but the only reason I want one is so that I can have more icons, and I feel like that's kind of foolish. As such, I tend to change them a lot.
This is my "WTF" icon, basically. The character is Nana Komatsu from the anime/manga series NANA. The series is a drama based on the lives of two young women who move to Tokyo at the same time, and share the same name. I just like this picture because she looks so cute, and is trying so hard to understand, but just....doesn't. Obviously, I always look this cute when I'm confused.
A feminist icon! The image is from Revolutionary Girl Utena, and I'm actually kind of embarrassed that I don't remember who made the icon, since I can't give them credit. It is one of my "feminist" icons, obviously. Revolutionary Girl Utena is full of symbolism, but I think that the sword piercing the middle of a blossomed flower takes the cake. Also, the flower belongs to Juri, one of my favorite characters from the show. The sword piercing the flower is hers - she ends a duel on her own terms, which meant "losing," but I admire her just the same. The characters in RGU have so many psychological issues that they're almost hard to keep track of. So, to me, the icon is both feminist, as well as saying, "You think you can analyze my problems? Sweetie, you don't know the half of it."

Revolutionary Girl Utena, looking fierce. The premise of the show is that she is a girl who wants to be a prince. A mantra that I've taken from the show is, "I will be my own prince." I don't need to be swept off my feet - chivalrous isn't something only guys can be. Etc.

A silly icon, of Vash the Stampede, from the anime series Trigun. He is giving a thumbs-up, attempting to give it emphatically, while succeeding only in looking ridiculous.

The four main characters of the animated show, Avatar: The Last Airbender. They are Aang, Katara, Sokka, and Toph, dressed in Fire Nation garb, sitting by a fire telling ghost stories. I had uploaded it in hopes of using it whenever I talked about Ghost Hunters, the story I'm supposedly working on during NanoWrimo. But, then midterms hit, and I only lasted for what, two days? FAIL.

This focus of the image is Juri, from Revolutionary Girl Utena. In Utena, when you fight a duel with swords, the swords have to get pulled out of someone's chest. Here, Juri is about to get a sword pulled out of her chest by her mentor, and she will then fight with the sword. Still, I loved this moment in the anime. The color scheme changed entirely, and for a moment, she almost seemed to collapse in his arms. The dude was acting as her friend, and with his arms holding her like this, I tend to use it as a "I'm ready to fucking die, someone please hold me" icon. Have I mentioned Revolutionary Girl Utena? Please watch it, everyone who exists, ever.

This is the only icon that I never delete. It's the first icon I made by myself, too. The words are lyrics from my most favorite song, "Shackled" by Vertical Horizon. I've always found solace in the words of the song, even though they seem to cut deeply. I seem to use the icon a lot when saying something related to my religious faith (Catholicism), but the words speak of isolation, to me - you've cut me open and left me bleeding, so leave me alone because I don't need anyone to be strong. Etc.
